Basic Milk Kefir Recipe
- Ingredients: 1 tbsp active milk kefir grains, 2 cups dairy milk (whole milk preferred).
- Equipment: Glass jar, choose either a breathable cover (coffee filter, cloth) or use a sealed jar, plastic strainer.
Directions:
- Add grains to the jar, pour in milk, and cover.
- Ferment at room temperature (
) for 18–30 hours, or until thickened.
- Strain the grains (plastic sieve recommended), reserving the kefir grains.
- Place grains in a new jar with fresh milk for a new batch.
Look for grains on Facebook Marketplace or ask anyone locally who makes milk kefir as they will have excess (the grains multiply).
